Description
TruDesign Connectors are moulded from a glass reinforced nylon composite. High strength, high-modulus glass fibres impregnated into the nylon provides dramatic strength, stiffness, toughness, and dimensional stability.
TruDesign Connectors eliminate the corrosion and electrical bonding problems associated with metallic fittings.
When connected to a skin fitting they must be above the water line.
Below the water line skin fittings (Thu Hulls) must be directly fitted to a Ball Valve (Sea Cock)
Installation
For thread sealing see TruDesign Technical information sheet on our web site www.trudesignplastics.com – for
suitable adhesive sealants and or thread tapes.
The connecting thread type are either BSP or NPS and clearly marked on the side of the fitting along with size. The
advantage of parallel threads rather than tapered is that there can be maximum engagement between the mating
threads providing a stronger connection.
Do not over tighten, allow the adhesive sealant to provide the seal. To achieve the correct orientation simply screw
the fitting all the way home then “back it off” to the correct orientation to suit hose direction. Adhesive sealants best
provide both the mechanical strength and sealing.
When considering thread sealing it is important to note.
• If the fitting is not to be taken apart, we recommend adhesive sealants.
• For the 3” Range only, TruDesign recommends adhesive sealants – we do not recommend Thread Tape or
Pipe sealing Cord.
• For 90⁰ and 120⁰ fittings or fittings with 90⁰ and 120⁰ fittings mounted on them, we recommend adhesive
sealants as this helps prevents the fitting turning from the weight of a hose.
• If parts are to be taken apart and have no risk of turning, thread tapes, pipe sealing chords or a lesser
strength sealant such as 3M 4200 can be used. A backing nut can also assist to prevent turning.
• When tightening a threaded fitting, do not over tighten, simply allow the adhesive sealant to provide the seal
and orientation of the fitting.
• If the fitting is tightened – tighten to a maximum of 16 Nm (12 ft/lb).
